Hey there Allan,

Absolutely. I tried living up to people’s expectations of me for a long time until I realized how much potential I had as a person and I started branching out, doing the things I’ve always wanted to do. It was immensely freeing to realize that I could be me and be cool at the same time. I’m just me. And I don’t need any other reason to exist.

People out there are looking for some sort of “life purpose”. I say, ditch the “purpose” and start being you, all the time, every day.

Yes too many people are trying be someone they are not, or are trying to live up to other people’s expectations of them.

I for one did that, until I realized I wasn’t happy with that. I started to define myself. What ever I didn’t like I discarded. No need to try be cool. I am cool. Why? because I’m me. You don’t need any other reason. That’s being authentic.

To be authentic ! It takes a lot of guts and self confidence to be who you are .Society as such is governed by a lot of cultures that has been handled down from centuries. To defy that, you need to be sure of who you really are. Human beings has been preconditioned from birth to follow the crowd ! True one can try to be oneself, how long ? When you defy the norm, you would get yourself ostracised and that, is not going to be easy. Like they say, Man cannot live on an island alone. Most of the time, people tend to give in and give up. It’s easier said than done !To all those who have stuck to it, my sincere congrats for I believe that , that is what God wants all of us to be. Be youself, its worth it !!!!!

Once again, another great article Glen.

Many people think make the assumption that authenticity actually isn’t “good for them”. You make a great point in saying that people respect the authentic.

People are becoming more and more aware of the inauthentic and picking out who is and who isn’t. Our internal strength comes from our character and authenticity is key in developing strong character.

Hey Glen,

Being authentic is the easiest way to live. You don’t have to try – you just be.

How? Be like a kid.

When you were 5, you did things because you enjoyed them, not because you were “supposed to.” You liked stuff because it made you happy, not appear cool. You talked to people because they gave you genuine value (ex. played with you, made you feel loved), not because you were supposed to associate or network with them.

I totally agree with your second benefit of how being authentic means you don’t have to constantly try. There’s no trick, you just be yourself. It’s easy, and you end up being happiest too. Again, be like a kid. Assuming you don’t cause harm to others, do what makes you happiest, live by following your passion rather than what you’re “supposed” to do.
