I've always been debating this topic in my head for years and pretty much all of the points you raised were conclusions I ended up with :) It heartens me to read it and gives me more confidence than before to be what I am.

Thanks for the great post!

Hey Glen,

Being authentic is the easiest way to live. You don't have to try - you just be.

How? Be like a kid.

When you were 5, you did things because you enjoyed them, not because you were "supposed to." You liked stuff because it made you happy, not appear cool. You talked to people because they gave you genuine value (ex. played with you, made you feel loved), not because you were supposed to associate or network with them.

I totally agree with your second benefit of how being authentic means you don't have to constantly try. There's no trick, you just be yourself. It's easy, and you end up being happiest too. Again, be like a kid. Assuming you don't cause harm to others, do what makes you happiest, live by following your passion rather than what you're "supposed" to do.

Keep being authentic,
Oleg

Great article. Being authentic self is really important. Its so true many people conforms to culture norms and social pressure. They lost themselves easily and follow the crowd. I used to be one of them. In the end, made me frustrated and unhappy.

I believe god made us unique with a given great talent. Now i am back after 10yrs as a fashion designer. Its the only thing i feel comfortable designing and sewing like my own skin. The point is its okay to be different and really listen to your inner voice. Authenticity glows from the real you inside. Why bother of the norms when you are totally yourself:)

You can certainly tell when you are not living your authentic self. Your gut feelings are your signals. Sometimes when you insist on living your authentic self and think of yourself once in a while, a few people in your life rebel. great post, really inspiring
