Psycho-Cybernetics by Dr. Maltz. You chose the right resource. In the past 37 years, I have worn out three copies of that book, and it never gets old. The road block section was certainly accurate; setting a goal does not change anything unless the goal is correctly pursued.

In that vein, and because you asked for personal goals as you monitored previous comments, I will give you mine: To get my site http:earnmorespendmoregroup.com on Google's page one for "earn more." & To triple my traffic from my best previous month, April.

Glen, maybe you can meet me half way on this one. I have had some success with weight lifting-but I am more than sufficiently bulky. Suggestions!

Well, I LOVE resolutions! I feel a bit unhappy, it leads me to want to resolve something bad so my resolution is to eradicate the bad stuff out of my life. For me, resolutions are simply goal setting. Someone's resolution might be to give up smoking. I'd set a goal to be a non smoker by March 1st. I'd achieve my goal because I always expect success. So I begin by asking myself "What do I want?" and then I decide and then I set the goal to achieve it. That's how I approach resolutions, GoGetter!

I've been recently using a goal setting app called GoalsOnTrack and it has worked very well. It saves me a lot of time in keeping track of my goals and most importantly it helps me better organize my daily todos towards achieving my goals. You may want to check it out.

This is a simple acronym I picked up in college which holds 5 main components required to reach any goal.

S.M.A.R.T. Specific - Measurable - Attainable - Realistic - Time-bound

Before you set out for your target, consider the following aspects of the scenario for you goal:

Specific - The goal has a well defined target for your focus such as: 'I will quit smoking'

Measurable - You must be able to quantify or measure your progress in some form.

Attainable - This goal is something possible for yourself or your group to reach for. Steer clear of the highly unlikely such as: I can open a chain of lunar hotels next month. Keep your plausibility reasonable.

Relevant - Why does this goal matter for you? Is this really a goal that relates to who you are and/or who you hope to assist? How does this goal apply to yourself and others?

Time-bound - Last but certainly not least, you should set a time of completion (or milestones for various steps of your goal) such as: I will lose 50lbs by next year.
As a goal ages your passion for it may wane with it. With out a deadline you may take an excessive or unending amount of time to reach a goal.

The S.M.A.R.T acronym was one of the more useful lessons I derived from my post secondary education, and it can apply to almost any goal. So many wonderful ideas here, very positive and enjoyable read, in return I had to share the strategy that worked well for myself. Not sure if that acronym has already turned up on here but if not take it or leave it.

Thanks for this wonderful site Glen

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU ALL!

Hey Jackmo,

The 30 day trials work well because it takes 3-4 weeks for an action to become a habit, I believe that is why Steve picked those numbers (and they do work).

Regarding comments, I use 'brians threaded comments'.

I hope that helps, thanks again for your comments mate :)

Yo Glen,

can you tell me what comments plugin you are using btw? I also think your social media sharing / email subscription boxes after posts look hot too.

I found your site through the comment you left at mine (thanks btw :p) and I'm impressed. You write well and seem to have acquired a lot of wisdom especially in comparison to others your age.

I saw in another post you mentioned reading Steve Palvina, what do you think of the 30 day trials for changing habits / behaviours and achieving your goals?

I'm currently trying to learn how to market my site better and set myself a 30 day challenge, after reading your traffic stats I'm definitely going to do a bit of research and testing with stumbleupon now.

Take it easy
