Notes and Quotes on Being Happy

Sometimes, we become so caught up with challenges that we analyze everything that’s happening. We don’t even know how to be truly happy.

Not too long ago, people who know me would say that I could give Grumpy of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs fame a run for his money. And these days, that dark side of mine would still surface from time to time. But now I do something to keep it in check.

For those of you who also choose to be happy even during those gloomy and frustrating days, here are some notes and quotes that you can use as reminders. Put them on sticky notes or on your mobile memo. Share them with your family, friends, and colleagues.

Note #1 – Happiness comes from within.

“Think of all the beauty still left around you and be happy.” ― Anne Frank

Everything around us can have the power to affect the way we think, talk, speak, and act. People and situations can tear our spirits apart – but only if we let them. It is still our decision to let them put us down or help us come out stronger. It is still up to us whether to be miserable or happy.

Note #2 – Good thoughts will make you look good.

“If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” ― Roald Dahl

Sure, there are many cosmetic products and procedures out there that can make you look and feel younger. But no other kind of smile looks better than one that’s caused by a good feeling about the various aspects of your life – contentment, caring,

Note #3 – Happy thoughts can only make you happier.

“We don’t see things as they are, but rather as we are.” – Anais Nin

When we decide to be happy, we begin to feel better and see the world through different eyes. Everything else will suddenly be nicer, even if to some people it’s not. And some will try to contradict us. In which case, we should take a look again at Note #1.

Note #4 – Happiness can only be complete if we share it.

“Trying to be happy without giving to others is like trying to kiss alone.” – Brian Vaszily

When we’re happy, it seems like the joyous feeling overflows and the natural path is to share. Remember that there may be people who will try and shoot down that happiness. But let’s not let this stifle the generosity that comes with our joy. Read again Note #1 if this unfortunate thing happens.

Final Note – Just let happiness happen.

“If you want to be happy, be.” – Leo Tolstoy

One thing that’s hard about how to be happy is that we have to let go of a lot of things – the past, the hurts, and all other burdens that weigh us down. And it is much easier said than done. It took me a long time to do it. But I think that’s just how it is. If you want to be happy, you have to let it happen.
