So, it has been 9 days since the first blog post ever written on this website and I wanted to share some traffic stats and other observations I’ve made in the personal development / self improvement niche. I plan on doing these for a couple of months as I find the stats of others interesting then they will be separated further apart, i.e. every 3 or 6 months.
My initial reaction to blogging in the personal development industry is that of amazement at how friendly everyone seems to be, and up to date on using web technologies such as Twitter, StumbleUpon and Digg. Having spent so much time in the internet marketing industry I missed out on seeing these different communities in action.

Traffic Stats for July (only 9 Days):
Here are the traffic stats for July:
- 779 visits
- 2,060 pageviews
- 04:26 average time on site
Top 10 Keywords that Sent Traffic:
- PluginID - 16
- site:pluginid.com - 10
- “find a passion” - 1
- how to quit drinking alcohol - 1
- learned travelling england - 1
- situational confidence - 1
- social pressure quit drinking - 1
The site is too young to rank for many keywords so there are only 7 so far
Top 10 Traffic Sources:
- StumbleUpon.com - 418
- Direct - 141
- www.Google.com - 30
- Digitalpoint.com - 23
- Twitter.com - 23
- ViperChill.com - 20
- Google.com - 15
- Fourhourworkweek.com - 14
- Successsoul.com - 9
- caroline-middlebrook.com - 8
The site currently gets traffic for 7 keywords so far so it will be interesting to see how that changes for August. As I expected, StumbleUpon is the current top referrer to the website but I’m glad to see a broad mix so that I’m not relying on any one source to drive visitors. If you were wondering, I use Google Analytics to monitor traffic stats.
Personal Development Niche
Although I’ve ran another blog for over 2 years, this is my first real time blogging in the personal development niche. There are a few things I enjoy, the first being that the content I write is timeless, whereas in the internet marketing industry where things change much faster, content can quickly become irrelevant or incorrect. I’m also writing articles that are a lot more detailed (and longer) because there are more questions that may arise from people reading so I want to cover all scenarios.
As I said, I’m amazed at how friendly the niche is, maybe I shouldn’t be seeing as this is self improvement. I’ve already been connecting with some great people such as Peter Clemens, Tina Su, Steve Pavlina, Alex Shalman, Leo Babauta, Jay White, Myrko, Irene and many more.
I look forward to continuing the journey with you all, and in terms of making money in order to help more people, the site has currently earned $0.16 haha. I’m having a lot of fun and that is all that matters. Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!

Interesting stats, Glen. I think you being an Internet Marketer and an excellent one too, is what will quickly grow this blog.
Good job, keep it up
Thanks Rajab, I think one of the most important things though is developing relationships with others in the niche, just like I have done with you and others in the IM world.
Cheers for the comment
Glen-
“…the content I write is timeless, whereas in the internet marketing industry where things change much faster, content can quickly become irrelevant or incorrect.”
Great point. I understand exactly what you mean. It actually makes it enjoyable to go and read an old post.
Writing about ’self-improvement’ also helps you improve personally as well. It makes you pay closer attention to your own personal areas that need self improvement, and helps you understand others.
I’m glad you’ve started this new journey, as it will only benefit everyone you come in contact with, including me.
As you always say, CHEERS!
I agree, it’s a great way for me to get all my thoughts together in one place, as I’m learning at the same time.
Thanks for the comment Peter.
I came here through problogger, great post! Did you know Darren before starting this blog?
Thanks, I’ve spoke to Darren on occasion yeah
Really jealous of your visitor numbers. Obviously doing a great job.
Will look for you on Twitter.
Thanks, although they are nothing compared to what we have seen so far this month
